The name Pilosocereus is translated to hairy cereus, which is shown as they develop hair from the areoles near their apex. These come from Mexico to Brazil and are columnar growing to 15' with the stems branching. They do grow from seeds and are often found in garden shops.
Sadly all I can write at the moment is this catus comes from this genus, but I have no idea about its species.
